Kazakhstan hosts regional symposium on sustainable food systems and nutrition governance for healthy diets in Central Asia and Caucasus - through the eyes of children and adolescents

On April 24-26, was held a regional symposium on sustainable food systems and nutrition governance for healthy diets in Central Asia and Caucasus - through the eyes of children and adolescents in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

The symposium organized with support of UNICEF’s Europe and Central Asia Regional Office Kazakhstan Government, World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) was attended by the representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, as well as members of international organizations and experts.

Azerbaijan was represented at symposium by the deputy chairman of the Healthcare committee of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Musa Guliyev, advisor of the Organization of health care department of the Ministry of Health Aynura Zeynalova, the head of the Project coordination department of PHRC Sabina Babazade, chief advisor of Food Safety Agency Aida Zeynalova, head of the department of the State Agro Trade Company under the Ministry of Agriculture Rauf Orujov, Health and nutrition officer at UNICEF Azerbaijan Tohfa Jamilova.

The main objective of the symposium was to draw attention of the countries’ representatives to the nutrition problems of children and adolescents, to encourage countries to undo effects on the fight against harmful nutrition, to protect health of the population by governing of food systems and nutrition.

During the symposium representatives delivered speeches on measures taken at the national level in their countries to address issues on nutrition of children and adolescents, as well as shared their experiences.
