A regional meeting was held in Bishkek on insulin use in diabetic patients

On 14-15 October 2019, a regional conference on " Access to Insulin" was held in Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Meeting with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, HAI (Health Action International), which conducts research and advocacy to ensure the world's safe, effective and affordable medicines; in collaboration with the Center for Health Policy Analysis, the ACCISS project was implemented to meet the growing global need for insulin treatment to address problems and constraints.

The meeting was attended by: specialist of the Medical Care Department, curator of endocrinology Aynur Zeynalova, deputy director of the Republican Institute of Endocrinology Babek Salek, head of the Project Coordination department of PHRC Sabina Babazade, specialist of Innovation and Supply Center of the Ministry of Health Nigar Mehdiyeva, chairman of the Republican Diabetes Society Momunat Omarova, and chairman of the Azerbaijan Diabetes League Yegana Sultanova.

About 100 million people in the world need insulin, but more than a half of them experience difficulties in obtaining or administration of drug. The aim of the meeting is to ensure access to medicines for diabetic patients in need of insulin, to eliminate inequalities and barriers in access to high-quality medicines, to listen to the experiences of participating countries at the national and global levels, and to identify existing health policies by addressing existing health problems.

On the first day experts WHO, UNICEF, and also from the United States, England, France, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Moldova, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Mozambique, Mali, Peru, Tanzania and other countries were introduced to the general situation of diabetes in other regions. On the second day of the meeting, delegates exchanged views on current clinical issues and clinical guidelines for the treatment and prevention of diabetes in their countries.

During the panel discussion, experts expressed their views on the ease of access to insulin, the implementation of the system of import and management of medicines in the country and drew attention to the rules of good policy and management mechanisms in this regard.

As a result, two days of discussions and results were analyzed, and opinions were heard on future plans in this regard.
